Instructions for Zoom

  1. Please take the time to download the Zoom app on any device you may use for joining live classes. The basic Zoom app is free of charge and sufficient for you to participate in my online classes.*
  2. Joining using mobile phones and iPads will take you straight into the class. People joining via a laptop will need to download the app and then click on the ‘open’ when the screen launches.
  3. I will open the class 15 mins before we start to give you time to ensure you are checked in and fully functioning!
  4. Remember everyone will be able to see you! I highly recommend you have your video settings on so we can all connect as much as possible and feel like we’re together as a group. If you prefer not to be seen leave your video off.

* I also suggest that if you are unfamiliar with Zoom, you practice in advance with a friend! It can take a little time to become familiar with how to ensure the video and microphone are switched on. If you have no-one to practise with and are unsure, please message me the day before and I will do my best to talk you through it.

Classes generally have a theme, drawing on classical yoga and healing traditions, including Ayurveda, Kashmir Shaivism, Buddhism and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

Thursdays – Level 1/2
Fridays – Level 1
Saturdays – Level 1/2

Moon yoga

These one and a half hour classes are exclusively for women and are a slightly different format to the mixed ability. The first hour is dedicated to asana practice, followed by a sharing circle and a brief meditation to finish.

Restorative yoga

July 26

These two hour classes take place once a month and include restorative yoga, pranayama and meditation. Restorative yoga is very gentle and can help to reduce stress and alleviate fatigue. It is a great way to take care of yourself, unwind completely and prepare yourself for the week ahead. For this class, you will need to have the following props ready: bolster or cushions/pillows, blankets, blocks or books, eye pillow or scarf.

Restorative Yoga is a deeply relaxing practice which can help to undo the negative effects of stress. Studies show that longterm stress is detrimental to both the immune and digestive systems. When the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) is activated over long periods of time, the body secretes stress hormones which divert energy away from the digestive system, preventing us from getting the nutrients from the food we eat. Furthermore, if we are in the habit of being constantly busy, it can be hard to slow down and rest – it is as if the body has forgotten how. We then need to relearn how to relax and give the body time to restore balance.

This session is aimed at helping the body and mind to release tension, and activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest mode). A regular restorative practice is highly recommended as both a preventative and a healing measure in helping you to maintain a healthy life balance.
