Restorative Yoga is a deeply relaxing practice which can help to undo the negative effects of stress. Studies show that longterm stress is detrimental to both the immune and digestive systems. When the sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) is activated over long periods of time, the body secretes stress hormones which divert energy away from the digestive system, preventing us from getting the nutrients from the food we eat. Furthermore, if we are in the habit of being constantly busy, it can be hard to slow down and rest – it is as if the body has forgotten how. We then need to relearn how to relax and give the body time to restore balance.
A regular restorative practice is highly recommended as both a preventative and a healing measure in helping you to maintain a healthy life balance.
These sessions are scheduled on the Sunday nearest to the dark moon each month – traditionally, this would be the time for a more gentle practice, in harmony with nature.
“Thank you for a wonderfully restoring session on Sunday. I slept like a log and feel very calm today. I shall look forward to the next one.”S
